Christmas Wishlist!

I was going to write something meaningful and interesting, but then my brain died and went, "screw that."

So here is my christmas list.

1. A laptop. I REALLY want a laptop. I get all my good ideas while I'm going to sleep...and then I forget them in the morning. Plus I hate writing while lying down, but love to write before bed.

2. Gift certificate to local bookstore: sure, it doesn't have many of the books I read, but still...

3. Wheel of Time fanart (especially Mat/Tuon or Rand/Min)

4. A new life (becuase mine sort of sucks right now)

5. A compiled list of 50 book recommendations from my lj friends.

6. Within Temptation to come out with a new CD so I can buy it.

7. A new writing notebook - almost finished mine.

8. A compiled list of requested pairings for Love is Blind by Ersatz, Zorpy, and Shorelle. (I really hope that Zorpisuttle doesn't mind me referring to her as Zorpy - it's a heck of a lot easier to type.)

9. A Mat/Tuon fic by Zorpisuttle. Because you're really good, and I need more MatTuon to read than my own. And/or a C2 for the BEST BEST of Wheel of Time fanfiction. Ersatz has one...but I need MORE!!!

Yes I'm bored, why do you ask?

10. The motivation to get something done. Becuase I rarely finish anything, and when I do it's usually

I'm going to try to muster the energy to finish rewriting the first chapter of Love is Blind.

And think about writing my Rand/Min smutfic.

I am honored to show up twice on your list! And of course you may refer to me as Zorpy. The best thing about my screenname is that it can be converted into a variety of nicknames that are just as interesting as the original. Also, no one else on the internet is a Zorpisuttle. (TheZorpisuttle is always me as well, merely signifying that I once had a Zorpisuttle account on the site and then forgot its password.)

I haven't brainstormed for WoT pairings in a while... I'll have to devote some time to that (or trawl through my notebooks to see what pairings I tried and failed to write).

As for Mat/Tuon fic... my review to your fic got cut off because I used a "<", but what I said after raving about your ending was something about being unbalanced by the setting (initally). This comes from being ridiculously anal-retentive when it comes to Tuon's character development. I always need to know the setting (timeline-wise) for any Tuon-centric fic, because she changes in very significant ways after certain events. For instance, the name she gives Mat in her head. We see in KoD that until she completes the marriage ceremony, she thinks of Mat as "Toy". Mat thinks of her as "Tuon", even if he says "Precious" out loud. When she completes the ceremony, she gives him a new name to go with his new role as prince consort (and the new respect she has for him): Matrim Cauthon. I feel that since Tuon's mindset is very alien to the Westlands, it's semantic details such as the Toy/Matrim Cauthon thing that show her often subtle character development and feelings for Mat. So for her characterization to feel authentic to me, I need to know where Mat/Tuon-fics lie in the book's timescale (via text clues like the aforementioned) so I can get the feeling for where she is in her relationship with Mat.
Er. That was way long. So your fic's setting initially confused me, because I couldn't pinpoint where it would happen in canon. It was clearly when they were with the show, but she referred to him as Matrim Cauthon, so it must have happened after they were married, but she left right after... see the wheels in my head kicking into obsessive overdrive? Then I got to the end, and it was so wonderful that I stopped caring that I couldn't fit it right into canon. :D Overall, even anal-retentive moi would say it worked, because at the beginning she was clearly adjusting mentally to the whole idea of being in love, and then she comes to the inevitable conclusion and acts on it in a wonderfully simple yet expressive way.
That was really long as well.
But wait, I'm not done! I still need to give you my excuse for why I don't try to write Mat/Tuon. Clearly, I am obsessive and anal-retentive about the minutest of details. If I wrote a Mat/Tuon fic, I would seriously be asking all my WoT-reading friends "Do you think Tuon would use this verb? What about this pronoun? I'm not sure, it doesn't have the right connotations..." and that would get frustrating for everyone.
Also, the only knowledge base I have for romantic relationships is what I've read. >_< I can't write what I don't know.

However, while I'm procrastinating on everything, I might come up with an idea. And then I might write it down, because you're right, we need more people writing Mat/Tuon than just you, Millia, and Ersatz. I'll try to overcome my fear of committing character assassination, just for you and your faith in my writing skills. :D

Hmmm... if you actually succeed in your smutty quest, you should of course spread it to the light of day, lj, and ff.net. Succeeding = good.
