This fic is the epitome of everything that OCD is not. Thank you for your example.

Srrsly. It looks like she read a symptom list and has no idea that there's any variety in symptoms. Not everyone is OCD about cleanliness. Everyone has their own little habitthings - mine is picking dirt out from under my fingernails or at my skin (bad, I know). NOT EVERYONE WITH OCD ACTS THE SAME.
Besides, you can't diagnose OCD with a blood test, I don't think. It's chemicals in the brain. Imbalance of seritonin, I believe. Hold on.
"Today the community of scientists studying obsessive-compulsive disorder has been split into two factions by a bitter feud over the exact cause of the illness. On one side is a group who believe that obsessive-compulsive behavior is a psychological disorder. This group believes that OCD is caused when people believe that they are personally responsible for the obsessional thoughts they experience. This exaggerated sense of responsibility makes sufferers more anxious, keeping the distressing thought in their mind. They try to avoid this feeling of responsibility by performing compulsions. On the other side are scientists who believe that obsessive-compulsive behavior is caused by abnormalities in the brain. A majority of researchers now believe in this biological hypothesis of OCD."
There you go. And to continue:
HA! SO THERE!
Sorry, this is one of my pet peeves.

No, for now there is no still no such thing as a Laboratory Test that will reveal whether or not you have OCD."

Have you ever read anything by Orson Scott Card? In the Ender series I believe there's one planet where they've made Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder into a kind of religion. It's passed genetically through the population or something (I forget the details) and those who have it are considered the equivalent of living saints. And then plot spoilers happen, and the result is an interesting moral/theological conundrum.

Your STD test came back---I'm afraid you have OCD
I especially loved how the chick showed no OCD-ness throughout the entire piece. Then at the end--"Oh, and you're obsessive-compulsive." ZOMG NO! Most horrible thing EVER. >.>
And what's a "blood tighter" anyway?

Now I have clinically diagnosed OCD. It is not a genetic disorder nor is it caused by abnormalities. It's developed after a person experiences a tramatic situation. Oftentimes it is a by product of Post Tramitic Stress Disorder. In my case, I developed it after being molested as a child.
I'm only posting this because I read the story and the author is an idiot. Plain and simple. I think I will write a very long letter about her inability to properly dictate a character with OCD and because what she does dictate is down right insulting to and for those who suffer with OCD.

Not always. I have also been clinically diagnosed with OCD, and I've never suffered any major trauma. I think the explanation is that some people, because of an imbalance of seritonin, are more tended toward showing symptoms of it/having problems because of it, that may be triggered by something (child molestation in your case, and sixth grade angst in mine).
I've never heard of it in connection with PTSD...that's interesting. And probably true, too. But I do diagree that it isn't a genetic disorder - while it might not be "passed down" simply, the tendency does run in families, like a tendency to be alcoholic. It might show up, it might not, but it's there.
This is just my understanding, but I have been doing my research since my diagnosis...not that I'm an authority by any means.
By the way, on an entirely different note, how do you do the effect on your icon? It is very pretty and awesome. *is an icon dork*
