This post has a point. It does. I swear.

It's musing about why I don't like Mat/Rand.

It's not an objection to slash, that's for sure. It's more like I don't feel the chemistry/attraction there. It's just kind of funny: Mat/Rand is probably the most popular so called "crack pairing" - and I don't like it. Instead, I go for the more obscure stuff, like...Mat/Gawyn. Or Fedwin/Min. Is there something just a little weird about that?

I guess I'm just not feeling it, that's all. Despite teh pretty. For some reason, for me, it seems...not improbable - with Wheel of Time, you can write basically any pairing and make it work, or at least that's my philosophy - but just...eh. Hard to explain.

Thoughts?

I've never been into it, either. It could just be the fact that I have a Mat OTP, but... I don't know. To me it's always seemed like the "OMG TEH PRETTY" pairing; like that's the primary reason it exists, to provide people with OMG TEH PRETTY. Or maybe it upsets the friendship dynamic- I feel like Mat and Rand are plenty interesting just as friends.
Or you could just be rebelling against the mainstream of WoT slash or something. :P

Yeah, I think you're right. I like them as friends - why don't we just leave it that way?!?

And the "OMG TEH PRETTY" thing is a turn off too.

Besides, there are better OMG TEH PRETTY pairings. Mat/Galad, anyone?

Any Galad pairing is OMG TEH PRETTY. It's canonical. :D

KKKOOL TOTALI. I guess I haven't read many, primarily just because I don't really like the pairing. But maybe I have to try writing it - I didn't really like Rasmo until I wrote it either and then I was like, "WHOA, THAT WORKS."

Hmmm.

But it does have that feeling to it, and maybe that's what bugs me.

I've been meaning to ask for a while...what does FTW stand for? *is abbreviation clueless*

Either "for the win" (or "pour le gagne" as I sometimes say in French class) or "fuck the what". I prefer the first.

Rand/Mat NTP (NOT True Pairing). Honestly, there's so little WoT slash, I don't have enough options to be picky, so I read Rand/Mat fics when I find them. I guess people see chemistry because of how "cuddley" they were in tEotW, and nevermind how that close friendship was non-existant in the rest of the books. And I agree with the two comments above about the prettiness factor ^_^


All I really have to say is... Rand/Galad OTP!

I guess I'm a little picky about my pairings - they have to be worth it. *is a pairing snob* Yeah, I guess so. And even so, I thought they were better just as friends. I never felt the romance. Yeah, I felt the close friendship, and that was adorable just as it was, without adding slash...

Prettiness pairings do not an STP make.
