I think the pro-fanficceres (especially that Jaime guy) have the best points--but then again, I'm a little biased. ^_^ Still, Hobb comes off as quite immature in her little rant against fanfiction. A simple "I'd appreciate it if you didn't" would have sufficed, and not made her look like a complete ass. >.>

I agree. And whenever I read that rant, I just wince at how stupid she made herself sound. Oh, Robin Hobb. For such a good writer, you certainly don't formulate your rants very well.

I don't think there's anything wrong with anything I write fanfiction for. I write fanfiction because I love the characters and want to see more of them.

THANK YOU! Anne Rice's no-fanfic-or-else thing drives me up the wall, since I'm in the VC fandom. As of late, though, she's gone completely nuts, and has forgotten about her Vampire Chronicles to go write about Jesus. However, Anne and the fanfiction deal... the woman is crazy. You don't have your people cyberstalk fanfiction authors. It certainly didn't stop people from continuing to write fanfiction (now it's all underground), and I think that's the case for any author who's against fanfiction.
