Summary: Lucivar gets a chance to babysit.
Lucivar hummed tunelessly, cradling Aiden and smiling a little, remembering when Daemonar had been this small. Chaosti and Gabrielle had wanted some time, and he’d wanted some time with his most recent nephew. They’d had a great time, played fun tickling games and some sillier things that Lucivar would never admit to in front of the witches. It was why he liked to sit for them, when they wanted to go out – because he could snuggle and baby-talk all he wanted, and no one would make fun or laugh other than Aiden when his tummy was gently tickled.
But now it was getting late, and Aiden’s eyes were drifting closed and more and more often his laughter was interrupted by wide yawns or small gurgling noises. Lucivar stood up and went over to the little cradle with a small smile, gently rocking the half asleep baby. The first signs of silver hair were starting to sprout on his brow.
“You’re going to look just like your daddy,” Lucivar told him, softly. “You’ll make him proud, I bet. You will.”
Aiden just gurgled and reached up, trying to tug on Lucivar’s long, black hair.
“Goodnight, boyo,” Lucivar said, giving Aiden’s feet one last little tickle. “Sleep tight. Try not to wake your momma up too much.” He tucked him in carefully, and set him in the wooden crib he’d made as a present when Gabrielle had announced that she was expecting. Aiden, startled at the loss of the warm body next to him, gurgled and cried before closing his eyes and going back to sleep. Lucivar reached down and touched his forehead with one hand, smiling a sort of weary, grateful smile.
He wondered, suddenly, standing there with his rough, calloused hand on Aiden’s soft baby-skin, if Saetan had even stood like this for him and Daemon, when they were very young – stood by their cradle with his hand on either of their foreheads, just watching them sleep, peaceful, unaware.
It made him strangely sad.
Turning away, he went to the door and turned out the light. The soft glow of the witchlight Gabrielle kept over his crib illuminated most of the room. Aiden made a small sound but hardly moved, already fast asleep.
Lucivar smiled and left the room, closing the door softly behind him.
Next week's DF Prompt: (I think this will be weekly) for emotastic!Caliban, or Locke Lamora. They're being loud lately. I'm going to try to vary the fandoms on this one, since I've already got the
