Okay, computer still fucked up. Yahoo loads weirdly when it loads at all, pages load slowly, toolbars don't close out the way they should (i.e. volume, virus database, etc.). Scanning again, and backed up my files to the external but am scared that might have transferred the whatever it is....SO QUESTION, FLIST, AND I'M GETTING A LITTLE DESPERATE HERE AND SERIOUSLY FREAKING OUT, SO PLEASE. HELP.

1. SPYWARE SWEEP. HOW DO I DO IT?
2. WHAT ARE THE EFFECTS OF A 'SYSTEM RESTORE?'
3. HOW IN HELL CAN I FIX THIS????

I would go to the computer guy, but my parents as good as told me that I'd have to pay for it. And I have. No. Money.

AAAAAAAAAGH *spazflail* MY GOD THIS WEEK HAS SUCKED. THINGS HAD BETTER START LOOKING UP SOON OR I WILL STOP GETTING OUT OF BED, LOCK MYSELF IN MY ROOM, AND SCREAM.

...anyone know how much punching bags cost? I really think I need one. Pillows just don't do it. Not enough resistance. Or pain.

ETA: Internet still stupid as hell, me still pissed off as hell, going to go try sleep before I give myself ulcers. And try this 'System Restore' thing, see how it works. *sigh* Aaaaaaargh. This week needs to be over. Now.

System Restore returns your computer to an earlier time, so you can get rid of any harmful changes. Luckily you don't really get any harmful effects, you still get to keep your stuff.

If you can, I suggest using Firefox instead of Microsoft Internet Explorer.

I do, that's what's most frustrating about this. I've only used Firefox for the past couple years, and while the spyware comes from Internet Explorer, disabling it doesn't really seem to help.

Yeah, that happened to me before. I ended up rebooting my computer to get rid of Microsoft Internet Explorer and downloaded Firefox from AOL, which I avoid using otherwise like the plague.

Don't know if that's an option for you, but good luck. What about a stressball, have you tried using one of those?

When my old computer was talking and being generally fucked up, I had to give it to my friend's computer nerd boyfriend to look at. It involved temp files on the hard drive and all kinds of weird shit.

But he introduced me to an anti-spyware/anti-virus program called Webroot, that is seriously like the best thing ever. It cleared all kinds of crap off of that computer, and it has kept my new one running perfectly since I bought it. So I suggest Googling Webroot, and see if you can download their spyware/virus program to run it on your computer. There may be a free trial version on there somewhere, I'm not sure. I think it's like $50 at Best Buy. Totally worth it.

$50 I don't haaaave fuuuuck.

But I'll go looking, thanks for the tip. I need a computer nerd boyfriend somewhere. >____<

Yeah if Computer Nerd Boyfriend hadn't been around, I would have going totally berserk and thrown my computer through my third-floor window.

:< Good luck with your stuff though. Computer issues suck.

I highly recommend downloading and installing Avast! Anti-Virus. It's what I use, it's free, and it's really good. Good luck.

I've been pretty pleased with SpyBot Search & Destroy, which is freeware. It catches even relatively benign spyware. You might also check out Ad-Aware, by Lavasoft. Even the free version is pretty thorough.

Good luck! I know computer problems are horribly frustrating.
